Jarman Photo bio picture
  • Welcome to My Blog!

You might be wondering who is Jarman Photo and what is Jarman Photo. Hopefully I will be able to answer your questions and let you get to know me a little better.

  • Who is Jarman Photo?

    My name is Kortney Jarman.

    I am a husband, a father, and a photographer.

I fell in love with photography in 2001 and have been shooting ever since. With the birth of my daughter in June of 2008, I came to realize the importance of capturing those special moments in our lives. And out of this came Jarman Photography.

My passion for lifestyle photography started with my own family and has spread from there. I loved the look of 'posed candids' and try and reflect that in my photos.

  • What is Jarman Photo?

I specialize in location lifestyle portraits. You might ask what is "lifestyle portraiture?" To me lifestyle portaits can be defined as posed candids. I will work with you and your family to make sure you are comfortable and relaxed in the location of your choosing, then you enjoy one another. I will capture those moments of genuine interaction and emotion. There might be some coaching from me, but it is all about you.

My goal as a photographer is to make you as comfortable in front of the camera as possible, so you will forget that I am there and enjoy the time with your family.

Making Cookies

We spent some time this evening making sugar cookies with my daughter, Emma. We had so much fun spending time together. I love hearing Emma laugh and giggle. It amazes me how much she has changed over the past year and a half. Last Christmas she really wasn’t interested in presents, she just liked the lights. This year she sang Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Happy Birthday Jesus on Christmas morning. It warms my heart to hear her sing.  She loved opening her presents and was fascinated by her Little People Nativity. She wanted to change baby Jesus’ diaper and feed him. It was so cute.

So I encourage you to spend as much time with your family as you can and make all the time with them as special as possible.

And what is a post without pictures.

Thanks for sharing in our holiday fun.  Hope you had a great Christmas with your family.  Look for new things to come from Jarman Photography in the new year.

Help-Portrait: Knoxville

Today I had the honor to participate in the Help-Portrait movement started by Jeremy Cowart of Nashville, TN.  It was such an honor to work with a great group of photographers and the wonderful families that participated.  As of the last update that I saw, over 10,000 people were photographed today. This is amazing and awe inspiring  to see photographers giving back to their communities.

I was blessed by the families that we had the honor and opportunity to photograph today.  Today wasn’t about the photographers, it was about the people who came to get photographed. We had the chance to meet a young man (13 years old) who was in remission of leukemia for three years. This young man had such a great spirit about him and wanted to get a photograph with his parents, but especially his father. The family traveled for an hour to come get their portraits made. I have a hard time putting into words the experiences I had today.

I hope that everyone takes time in this season of giving to find a way to fill a need in their community. It will bless you and the one you help in ways that you cannot imagine.

Here are the people that participated in the Knoxville Event.

Christmas Tree Farm – A 2 Family Photo Session

I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph two families recently at White Pine Acres, a Christmas tree farm in the Karns community.  It was a beautiful tree farm with trees of all ages.  They had many ready for cutting and a lot more that were still growing. If you are looking for a real tree this year, stop by and see Jim Stevens.

First up in this session was Tim & Carla and their 2 daughters.

Tim, Carla, Hannah, and Micah were such a joy to photograph. We had a blast joking around and laughing together.20091121 P McGhee 0031 Christmas Tree Farm A 2 Family Photo Session

I will admit I was a little nervous on this session. Tim is an elder at my church and is someone I respect. So you can understand my nerves. But I shouldn’t have worried, we had a blast and got some great photos.20091121 P McGhee 0053 Christmas Tree Farm A 2 Family Photo Session

Next door to this farm was an open field with an old gate in between. I love it when there are items that lend themselves to the photographs around the area. It makes my job so much easier.

The next family is one that I have had the wonderful opportunity to photograph on a couple of occasions. Check out their previous session. I have really enjoyed getting to know this family better through photographing them and attending church and lifegroup together.

The boys were so well behaved and were ready to be photographed when they got there.20091121 P McGhee 0112 Christmas Tree Farm A 2 Family Photo Session

Steven and Amber have two great boys and it’s so much fun watching these boys grow up.

We were lucky to get them both to sit down and stay still for just a minute. But you can tell that Zachary loves his little brother.

And not to be outdone by his older brother, Luke wanted to stand by the fence also.

Thank you Tim, Carla, Hannah, Micah, Steven, Amber, Zachary, and Luke for letting me photograph you.

Saving Little Hearts: Carvella Family

I had the amazing and wonderful opportunity this past weekend to meet and photograph the Carvella family.  They are such a fun and energetic family, who were a joy to photograph.

I met the Carvella family through the Saving Little Hearts organization.  They have been involved with Saving Little Hearts pretty much from the beginning. Cameron, the oldest boy, has undergone 2 open heart surgeries. I couldn’t believe it, he is so full of life and energy.

I had an absolutely wonderful time photographing this family in Victor Ashe Park. It’s families like this that make me fall in love with photography all over again.

Thank you Mike, Jennifer, Cameron, and Carissa for being a blessing to me and allowing me to photograph your wonderful family.

The Loveland Girls

I had a wonderful session with the Loveland girls this last weekend.  This was my second session with little Kelaney.  My previous session was with her at 2 weeks old.  It is amazing to see how much she has changed in 4 months.  Her sister has become such a big helper for her parents and is a very proud big sister.  Kelaney was such a good sport and was very patient until the very end.

The Loveland’s are University of Tennessee football fans and are bringing their daughters up in the fine tradition of cheering on the Volunteers.  So the first series of photos are of them in their UT gear.  Next they wore their “Little Sister” and “Big Sister” shirts. They were so cute together.  Then Kelaney wore a dress that was her big sister’s when she was little. At this point Kelaney was getting frustrated with the photography session and we only took a few more photos.

It is such a joy to experience kids growing up and the changes they go through. I love that I can be a part of the process of documenting the growth of children.
